Re: How do you decode a small block casting number - 7R1o1294 T04T4HC ???

Here's what I came up with so far. To be sure we need the date code and casting number off the block
7R1o1294 T04T4HC

T = Tonawanda engine assy plant N.Y.
04= april
T4- The T is wrong. This 2 didigt number is the day/date of the month april. So it could be a 0 for 04th or a 1 for 14th or a 2 for 24th.

HC = this is the engine stamp suffix code. HC was used from 65 to 69 on 350's and 327's in camaros chevelles impalas and novas. To narrow yours down we need the casting number and date off the block.

7R101294 should have a 1 at the front. 17R101294
1=chevrolet
7= 1967
R= arlington TX plant
101294= this will match the vin number of the car it came out of.

Because this motor came out of a car we have the date 1967
HC code in 1967 is a 327, 275hp, impala 4bbl, coupled to a powerglide trans.
But that's not definite. To be sure we need the date code and the casting number on the block. (see pic)
1967 pertains to the car, the date code off the motor is really the date code that will give a definite answer.

Re: How do you decode a small block casting number - 7R1o1294 T04T4HC ???

3903352 hits for a 1967, 327 So it is the motor listed above.
If that is in fact a T, then the person that stamped it made a mistake. It happens, I've seen it before. It does look like a T. It really doesn't matter much, the HC is the code you want out of all that.

HC with casting number 3903352 is definitely a 67, 327, 275 h.p.

Re: How do you decode a small block casting number - 7R1o1294 T04T4HC ???

Its part of the HC code. I have a field book of small block suffix codes and the impala is listed in the book for 1967 HC coded blocks. Sometimes it's wrong but not very often.
Atleast you know it's a 67, 327.
That's a good lookin truck in your avatar.
always happy to help
