Re: tach cluster 1976 -77
Hey Woody we just bought a 1975 crew cab dually 454 camper special but know very little about 73-80 trucks. What is the difference between 73-75 gauge cluster and the 76-77 you have listed?
Always appreciate you , Thanks Paul and Jason

Re: tach cluster 1976 -77
73-75 have an Amp meter and the configuration of the plug going into the back may be different...but im nto totally sure when i put a 77 tach cluster in a 73 i had already swapped the harness for a 77. and my tach reads high too. the one in my 74 is the correct one for a 73- 75 and it is spot on...
hope that helps

Re: tach cluster 1976 -77
You can adapt the ammeter harness to the voltmeter cluster but it is a bit of work ...use the newer plug and splice 12 v + to the voltmeter
Often reading high can mean the tach was in a 6 cyl originally ...will work fine but 25 percent high |

Re: tach cluster 1976 -77
The truck i pulled it from is a 76-77 3/4, V-8 4spd. GMC. but that doesn`t mean someone didn`t change it out at sometime.
most of these that i`ve seen will have 8cyl stamped on the back , this one doesn`t, it has a four digit number (8775) i`ll try to get a better pic of the tach later today. |

I believe there is a calibration resistor in a lot of 70's GM tachs that has a tendency to change value with age and cause them to read high. Here's a page showing how to fix 1978-up truck tachs --> http://howtoalmanac.com/kevin/projec...chfixtruck.htm I think the internal circuit on the 76-77 tachs is slightly different but still the same concept.
