I am getting a set of late model 60/40's (Thanx Jason!) to put in my '72. These are the light tan color. My interior is basically black (carpet, headliner, door panels, dash pad) all of which I added to "spruce up the truck" as it was the basic Custom motif before. The truck is #518 medium green as is the interior paint. I am finding that it is going to be a BIG pain in the rump to try and change the color of the seats so I was contemplating changing the color of the interior accents to saddle possibly. That means re-coloring all of the black items in the truck now! That in itself is also a BIG pain! Bottom line, do you think the light tan seats will look okay in there? It is not a show truck but it does look good. I don't know if I really want to dump anothe couple of hundred bones on a seat cover to put on a perfectly good seat either.

why not just go to wal-mart and pick up a set of seatcovers from there? you've got a variety of colors to choose from for about $25 or so.

As much work that has been done to the truck. Do you think it would be worth the couple of bills to replace the seat cover. In the end its up to you, but it seems the rest of you interior is mostly done.

I really don't want "cheezy" looking seat covers on it. I have seen those Wally Mart specials..no thanx!
Green '72 you might have a good point! Maybe seat covers ARE okay. Have you seen any late model covers on trucks? I have'nt so I really don't know how they look..

My father had a really nice set of covers that were the same color (grey late model 95) as the seats. They were not cheap ones. He used those because he was a painter and did not want to kill his seats. they would get a little dirty and he would take them out an through them in the washer. I was gonna get some for mine. another route would be to find some of these after market company that make the replaceable seat covers. that all you have to do is take the hog rings outta yours, slide the cover off the foam, and replace it with the new ones. I swear I have seen the late model one like they have for our older autos.

Seems to me that changing the seat to black with a quality replacement cover would be easier than dying all you black vinyl pieces saddle. And yes, go the extra $$ to do it right, otherwise you'll always wish you had. My 2 cents

I had my 60/40 recovered in Black tweed and Leapord print cost me $300. He said for straight black it was $225. Well worth it to have it recovered by a profesional. Even if you bought nice seat covers they would run you $100-125, why not spend the extra hundo and do it right. I chose the TWEED cause it wears for a LOOOOOOOONG time.

I have'nt got the seats yet, but I know they are hard to find in any color other that tan or gray. I have seen seat cover makers' websites and I can probably find some somewhere or like you suggest getting them @ an upholsterer's shop.

I would think after u spent that kind of money. Keep the color seats u have,,,,buy the color cover u want, that way u will always have the orig fabric underneath if u change your mind later.
And i also like the idea of washable covers.

Hey Dinnut, I am pulling out the original bench (in great shape too) in favor of the later model seats. I have a saddle blanket cover on it right now and it was pretty durable to boot. Just like the way the new seats look and the comfort of them too.

Find a good seat cover. A few years ago I bought a good seat cover for about $20. Put it on and it looked real good. You couldnt even tell it was a seat cover. Everyone who looked at it in my truck thought that I had taken the seat in and had it recovered and were totally suprised it was only a seat cover.

if you don't want to buy the Wal-mart type uni cover, check an apolstery shop. On my last truck, the lady there let me pick from some discontinued fabric they had and made me a cover after taking seat measurements. Only cost me about 50 bucks for my 60/40 split bench seat and looked just like factory! Worth a shot to ask...
