Definitions of words I only see in this site

First up is "IIRC". I see this all the time. What the hell does it mean?

Second is "repop". I realize this is a newly manufacturered part, made to resemble stock as closely as possible, but what do the letters stand for?

Thanks

Second i am not sure other than it is reproduction. I usually say "repro"

Re: Definitions of words I only see in this site

Yeah, I had to start googling some of these acronyms. They are here to stay with all the texting young people do these days and probably will see more each day. It's a lot quicker to write "IIRC, repop, IMHO, etc. than to spell out the letters.

Not sure why people say repop but it may be "pop" out a new reproduction.

One word that I don't understand is "fitment." Fitment has to do with furnishings and furniture in a house or building. I've always just use the word "fit." As an example "how does the part fit?"

Re: Definitions of words I only see in this site

IIRC has no relation to IMHO. IIRC means If I Remember Correctly. It's what you type when you want others to not take your reply as the gospel. IMHO means either In My Humble Opinion or In My Honest Opinion and is used when you want others to know your reply is just your opinion.

Repop is an abbreviation, not an acronym. It makes no sense because it drops a letter and adds a letter that doesn't belong. Kind of like saying chimley instead of chimney. Repro uses the same amount of letters and it's obvious what word it abbreviates because...it abbreviates it.

Acronyms have been used since long before the internet and texting. I'm not sure what document it was,but it was in the 1700s. You will find OMG used.

Re: Definitions of words I only see in this site

I believe "pop" is a slang term for production (as in ,"How many did the night shift pop out ?).
It may have come about from early cartoons,if you saw a cartoon of a factory making things, every piece that came off the conveyor belt was accompanied by a "pop" sound.
The advent of replacement parts made by someone other than the OEM (original equipment manufacturer) was labeled a reproduction part.
slang the two together and you get the term REPOP
.
This is just my best guess, but it makes sense to me
LOL and that's not sayin' a whole lot.!

Re: Definitions of words I only see in this site

I've "heard" reproduction parts called "repop" at shows and swap meets long before I ever joined this site (which is getting to be quite a while ago!)

I like the explanation above, makes sense to me!

I used to complain about all the shorthand, misspelled stuff until I started using my phone... what a pain.

Read my post... They're here and probably won't go away because of texting. I worked for a company where we communicated by texting starting way back in the 90's and we all used acronyms back then since we were limited to a certain amount of characters per message.

Good point, alot of data usage and cell phone bills are based on characters or words used. If you can save 3 words by saying IMHO, you save money and time.

About a year ago, my mother-in-law just started learning how to text message. She would spell out "lots of love" after every text. She thought that's what lol meant. My wife and I got a good laugh out of it.

Re: Definitions of words I only see in this site

I am under the impression that RE-Pop means that it a part that was made from the original yet worn out mold, example, a repop fender was made from an original stamping, yet the stamping is worn out, so the new fender is not completely identical to an OEM, yet may be better then a reproduction (made from a new stamping from china or taiwan).
