Trunnion pin replacement question
I have a NP 435 4 speed transmission, and I need to replace the trunnion pin that is on each side where the shifter is held into the transmission. How do I do this properly? The replacement ones that I got from the dealership have cracked when I try to set them with a punch to flare the end....

I'm not that familiar with them but are you sure they need to be flared? If they are a hardened pin (which they should be) they WILL crack when you try to flare them out.... I thought they floated and were held in place by the shifter boss on the inside and the cover when it is locked down on the outside... I guess I'm not sure without checking mine... LockDoc

Re: Trunnion pin replacement question
The original one of the two require that is still on there, is flared. And yes they are a hardened pin... and yes i know that is why it is cracking. The locking part(cup) hooks on to the pin and is spring loaded. You press down the cup and give a 1/16 turn. but this doesnt keep the pin in the hole.... it just keeps the shifter in the hole.
