Wheel backspace

I'm putting a 60 inch wide 9 inch Ford rear in my 55 1st. How wide of a wheel can I go and what back space would I need ? I'm considering Chevy rally wheels, 7 or 8 inch wide, but don't have cab or bed on chassis yet. Any help is much appreciated.

Re: Wheel backspace

The Nova rear under my 48 is supposed to be 60.25 and I run a 15x8.5 Enkie 32 on the back but only have a half inch of clearance between the tire and the bed on each side.

I have to carry an old chrome reverse wheel for a spare as stock offset rims won't clear the bed.

Re: Wheel backspace

28 degrees outside and I'm out in the shed measuring the backspacing on the wheel in my bathrobe.

3-1/2 inches from the mounting surface to the lip of the rim and 4 inches to the outside edge of the sidewall. With that axle I think you really need four inches of backspacing on the rim. On the wheel and tire that are still on the truck it looks like there is a little over and inch clearance between the tire and the fender.

I thought I was the only one that did that sort of thing
