Re: Aftermarket Tilt Steering Column?

I guess I would rather not, but I'm going from a 700r4 to a th400 and don't like that the gears don't correspond with the shifter. But I also looked into just switching out the shifter to a 3speed, but don't know what it takes hanged the shift linkage.

Re: Aftermarket Tilt Steering Column?

Well I did the same thing but with a th350. The column will babble to shift fine with the trans just make sure that the linkage is adjusted right down near the trans. You can also take the shift plate in the dash and change it to match the 3 gears instead of the drive and overdrive symbol. Otherwise lokar does have a shifter that's either cable or mechanicle that goes on or through the floor.

Re: Aftermarket Tilt Steering Column?

So i can just change out the shift plate and then get an aftermarket linkage, or did you mean you can modify the existing linkage in some way? if this works it will be a ton cheaper and easier than getting a new column. thanks

Re: Aftermarket Tilt Steering Column?

The indicator plate on the dash can just be changed. The stock linkage will work but you will hit first on the trans before the column shifter will bottom out on the internal stop. My buds truck is the same way.

Otherwise you can buy aftermarket shifter and such and get rid of the column shifter

Re: Aftermarket Tilt Steering Column?

It will definitely work with your column. Just adjust your linkage and change the indicator. I did it on mine and it works just fine. Worst comes to worst, just get some linkage from a 3-speed auto truck and you'll be fine. Much easier than swapping a column.

Re: Aftermarket Tilt Steering Column?

change out the indicator to a 3speed one, and use the correct linkage at the trans end and it will work fine.
