78 k10 leaky 4 speed to 700r4 swap questions

I have a 4 speed with the big t-case (205 i think) and i previously posted a thread bout them both leaking like crazy. I live far out in the woods so an overdrive wood help since i plan on driving more on pavement than off-road i can afford to lose the 4 speed. The 700r4 is out of an 86 k10 so im curious, can i use my old t case or must i use the one that i have with the 700r4? I have the old driveshafts and crossmember with the 700 i just think the older t case looks beefier. Second will my old 4x4 stick and linkage work with some tweaking or must i seek out new? I cant find much on this swap is why im asking. Also what kind of case came withthe 700 in 86? Thanks Leroy

Re: 78 k10 leaky 4 speed to 700r4 swap questions

If it is out of an 86 K10 then the transfer case should be a np208.

What gear ratio are your axles? And what engine? And what size tires? My 87 had the 305, 700R4 and 3.08 axles and it drove better and got better gas mileage in Drive as opposed to overdrive. So before you take the dive I would recommend considering the whole system. IMO a 700R4 would be awesome with 4.10s or 4.56s but if you have 3.73s or numerically lower I personally would just fix the leaks in what you have and enjoy it. You are probably looking at $50 in seals.
