What to do next?

About a year ago I bought a roller off of craigslist for parts. I did receive a bill of sale but no title. The truck still had the vin and SPID. Through a oil change sticker on the windshield I was able to track it back to SC. After conversation with the SC DMV I discovered it still has a clear clean title in that State. However, they would not tell me who's name it was currently in.

Every time I call the local clerk's office in KY I get a different answer. A couple being that if it is in someone's else's name somewhere else they can not transfer it without the title and another one being that if I have had it for five years I can transfer it into my name.

The guy I bought it from said he bought it from a guy that said he bought it from SC but did not get a title with it. So I don't believe I will come up with a name that way. If I had the name of the person on the title I could call them up and ask them to send me a signed copy of it so I could transfer it. I have recently sold my other C10 that I was needing parts for so I was hoping to be able to get a title for this truck but I guess it will not turn out that way. Any suggestions?

Re: What to do next?

I would be careful contacting person with title They could leagally come get your truck In tennessee if you have a bill of sale ,pictures of vehicle and have a police officer come verify the VIN you can apply for a title This is on vehicles over 30 years old I just did this works flawlessly

Re: What to do next?

I had a local police oficer come look at the vin on truck and bill of sale and wrote out a paper saying that they matched took that and pictures of my truck to dmv Paid sales tax on value of truck applied for title got new tags(wont need them for a while but required at that time) and got my title yesterday Took about 3 weeks to come back Thants how you do it in Tennessee other states should be similar on vehicles over 30 years old Newer vehicles get more complicated
