Re: Double din audio deck
I have been thinking of trying the same thing but I have yet to see anyone with one in our trucks to even get an idea.

Re: Double din audio deck
I would think on our trucks that an in dash navi system would be way to low to see making it way more unsafe than it prob already is I would maybe mount it higher where it is more in the line of site

But really, the way they did it in that pic is probably better. The more I deal with my interior, the more I can see that it was all designed to work together. Big steering wheel so you can see through it to your gauges. Little factory radio isn't hindered by gearshift and steering wheel. It was kind of all made to work with what it came with, and deviating from that requires some ingenuity. And maybe some sacrifice. Notice he doesn't have that vent anymore. You don't notice those vents till it gets real hot or real cold. Then he'll notice lol |

Re: Double din audio deck
Nice truck but you have to remember the effects of Caifornia Wines
Sorry I'll stop and look at the map and figure it out. Last time I tried GPS it took me accross six lanes of freeway traffic to take the next exit, then into the slums of Seattle |

Re: Double din audio deck
If your going to "flip out" watch the depth of the pad
would prob work ok with older, with less overhang

Re: Double din audio deck
I built a console for a guy that wanted to put a double din in his bucket seat truck, but he never picked it up. It is a front-halved Ford Raptor console, and fits right up under the dash and around the hump in the dash next to the factory radio section. I need to get a pic of it in a truck to sell it faster.
It's hard enough to get to the area in the cluster. The center in a console is the best way to go I'd say.

all the options available (toll road, shortest distance, scenic route) the 1 variation no one thought about is "avoid ghetto"......slight overlook

Re: Double din audio deck
Has anyone put a double din radio in their truck. If so I would love to see some pics. I have a few ideas of to where I would put one in my truck. Here is a pic of the area I had been thinking about and just cutting the dash pad and reupholstering it.

Re: Double din audio deck
Im in the process of mounting a double din in the middle of the dash on my wifes crew cab project. The modified dash is coming along nicely and I should have some pics of the finished product soon.

I like the way that looks. How far is the reach for the radio. Is it comfortable

Re: Double din audio deck
its not bad, it feels real nice. me and the wife tried it out and we only had to sit up a little. but we Have custom seats, that might make a slight difference.
this was a quick test fit: |

Re: Double din audio deck
No razor blade though the pad and a little airsaw to cut out the metal. iv been doing some cosmetic work to it so it dont look like a hack job. Ill have a full to do on it in my build thread. when i get it finished up

Nice I can't wait to check that out. I don't know how that will work for me since I have the factory bench seats.
