I have a 61 gmc cab on a 63 chevy 4x4 frame and i put a th350 behind the 283 in it, my problem is now my transfercase shifter needs to find a mount. has anyone done this in the past? If nothing else im thinking about using a cable shifter. thanks!

Re: TH350 4X4 swap
What type of transfer case are you running, NP203 NP205, NP208? I don't think a cable will have enough strength to move the shift fork and then you need to return it. Most all pre 1996 transfer cases use a mechanical linkage with a shifter that comes through the floor in the cab.
Can you post some photos of what you are working with? |

Re: TH350 4X4 swap
Im running the stock rockwell t-221, I just had the drive shaft rewelded and balanced to work. I will get some tommorow. It had a 3 speed previously, and the sfiter mounted to the transmission, same with the 4 speeds.

Re: TH350 4X4 swap
you could possibly fab a mounting bracket coming off the bolts holding the tail housing to the trans.
there was something similar to this a while back, but just can't remember where, but I think that he fabbed a brkt off the frame. I am faced with the same problem as I have an isolated 205 and a 5 speed. I will just make something to do the job. You must have also install a rear trans crossmember that will be in the area ron |

Re: TH350 4X4 swap
You can go with a cable to operate the TC, but it will have to be a good cable assembly capable of transferring the required force. I'm not sure if a standard transmission shifter cable would be stiff enough or not.
Alternately, you should be able to fabricate a mount for the mechanical shifter, coming off of the tailshaft housing bolts of the TH350. You will have to look for additional locations to brace that mount. Maybe one or two of the pan bolts. Edit: Looks like Ron beat me to it
