Gear size?
Thought I'd ask here. I'm putting an LQ9 with a mild comp cam, 4L80 trans with a 3600 stall. I'll be running 24X14 wheels and 405/25/24 tires (32" tall, 15.5" wide). I have 3:73's in my 12 bolt now, but was wondering if 4:10's or even 4:56's would be more of a motivator? This is a cruise around town truck that never goes on the interstate, and will never go down a drag strip. Opinions?? I will be using narrowed moser axles. Thanks for your imput.

Re: Gear size?
NEVER goes on the interstate and NEVER goes down a strip? Kinda makes it a limited use vehicle for sure. I guess with 24's going high speed probably isn't the best idea anyway.
If you are really just gonna keep it 45 and under, then going with the 4.10 or 4.56 might be alright to help motivate those big heavy wheels. The 4l80e first gear is decently deep, with a higher rear gear you'll be able to partially offset the effects of the large diameter wheels.

Re: Gear size?
That's correct, it's just a show truck that I can cruise around town. And I'd like it to be able to be motivated at a moments notice. :-)

Re: Gear size?
When I was running an 80e with a 30" tall tire, I started with 3.73's but made the move to 4.56's. it was more for the performance aspect. I will tell you, it made my converter act smaller. IE it flashed to 4,900 with the 3.73's and only went to 4,500 with the 4.56.
Now, the performance gains, it cut a best of 1.67 60' with the 3.73's and a 1.59 60' with the 4.56 gear. But in all fairness I also dropped about 125-150lbs, so how much of that gain was gear vs weight. Will the gear change help, sure. But I don't think it will be all that noticeable. Now, a bigger converter would definately show a bigger improvement over the gear change. Being you will have the ability to lock the verter in 2-4, I might consider that as an option.
