Got a stock radio installed. Looks much more clean

I still need to get an antenna, and finish wiring it up, but I'm very pleased to at least have this beautiful original radio in the dash instead of a cheesy 70's aftermarket tape deck.

Looks just like it belongs there! If you don't mind my asking, what's a stock radio worth these days?

Thanks.... I was just curious. I have one, but like the rest of my original stuff, it's not for sale unless I sell the truck. And I have no intention of doing that as long as I'm able to drive.... maybe even longer!

I got a good deal on it. I've seen them, going for about $80-$100. So, if you've got the knobs, and it's in decent shape, you're looking at about $60-$100

If you find an antenna that looks and works good, post where you got it here.

I've bought several and non of them have lived up to their billing. Last one I got was advertised as exact repro and fit and it did fit better than the others but the reception is not as good as others I've tried. Unfortantely, I don't remember where I got it.

They actually did a bit. They widened the insides of the holes a bit, but luckily the knobs cover it. I was really flinching, waiting for the punch...when I removed the face plate from the prior stereo for the first time. Was relieved to see they didn't botch it up too bad

Thanks. I think this radio, and the way it fits the dash, is one on the most beautiful I've ever seen. Simple design, yet very appealing

Well, that turned out all right! Can't even see where it was cut. That radio looks right in there.

I can get a few here in my area. I believe about about 6 local - three talk radio, one Spanish, one religious and an all vintage country music. There are a couple more that are iffy.

Re: Got a stock radio installed. Looks much more clean

I am gonna find a vintage AM (working or not) to put in my dash. I have my other one (aftermarket) hanging under the dash, but it is going in the glove box. After looking for a radio delete plate, I decided i'd rather have the old AM in there as a filler, because it goes better with the "vibe" of the truck. Shoot, I may even get an old speaker and have two seperate sound systems, lol.

LOL. A fair amount of country, Mexican stuff, and if you're an extreme right wing republican there's a ton. Actually, AM radio stations tend to travel the furthest. My grandpa was an engineer that did some sort of radar work in WWII. He used to say that AM radio waves at night time would travel extremely far. Not sure if it is because of the sun not blocking the transmission or what, but he used to pull in Los Angeles radio stations at night from Salt Lake

Yeah, I could do a fancy radio and speakers, but I don't want to, for the same reason I don't want a clock in my truck. I just want that timeless look and feel

Re: Got a stock radio installed. Looks much more clean

I have a nice original working am/fm in the dash and a modern sound system under and behind the seat.
I love the way the original looks, and it sounds neat when I want that crappy vintage sound.

Looks good! I installed a factory gm piece in my dash, just for looks. I have a hidden system for the tunes.

No offense Mister-B, not sure what that comment has to do with the thread. I don't consider my self extreme right wing but I do listen to some of this talk radio.

Re: Got a stock radio installed. Looks much more clean

Mr. B, great looking installation. Good chrome face with no pitting. I just bought one off ebay for $99 and it should be here in two days or so. I paid a lot for an AM cause it has very little pitting in chrome and I wanted a good one, tested & working.
That said, my new radio has solid black knobs like yours. My question is why do some knobs have stainless or aluminum looking centers. I prob. will get two of those knobs to match my others on the dash of my 72. But I was just wondering what years or whatever makes the difference in the two styles of knobs?

Oh, relax. Someone questioned if there is anything to listen to. I answered with several examples. I guess country listeners and Mexicans should get offended too?

Be prepared to go to Lowes, and buy a 14 x 3/4 hex washer head screw. Part 490254. Comes in a pack of 5. Even if your radio comes with the required bracket, it'll probably be missing the screw that attaches it to the mount below the stock speaker.

I don't know the answer to your question about knobs. I speculate that due to the fact that they just pop off (and with how many are for sale without knobs, and how expensive buying knobs separately are), people likely have purchased different style knobs aftermarket, or from a different used radio

I didn't say I was offended. I said there was no need to mention that. If you read my post above I also answered with a few examples but didn't resort to stereotyping.

And by the way, I'm of Mexican heritage and listen to country. I didn't take offense to that part either.

Ok, well... I guess we're all good, except for you have your opinion that it wasn't necessary. Fair enough
