new used radiator thoughts
i recently rebuilt my 292 engine in my 64 K-10 pickup and was looking to get my radiator fix because mine was shot but the guy that's fixing it cant seem to find the right size core to replace it with. so i was wondering if there was a different size radiator from a newer car or truck i could put in its place that they might have made of like an s-10 or something and bolt right in and look good. possibly one that might have a v-8 in-case i decide in the future for and upgrade. i'm a little low on money right now and figured it was a good way to go for now and later when i get the cash get a new one
thanks, guys |

Re: new used radiator thoughts
Newer ones don't fit. Too wide and too tall. Replacement ones from the aftermarket are the heavy duty wider one that sits above the frame rails and uses that types mounting brackets. Light duty trucks got a narrower rad that fit between the rails and used different mounts and brackets.
Rock auto sells the wider one. Lmc sells both. Though much more money. Here's a link to lmc for sizes. http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cbe/full.aspx?Page=33 Which do you have? Take a pic. http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/raframecatalog.php?ck[ID]=0&ck[idlist]=0 |

Re: new used radiator thoughts
Keep looking, The cores are available.
I had my original 3 core/auto trans radiator recored. Cost about $250 with an american made core, about the same price as a repo. The repops are cheap china crap with light duty solder joints that are prone to leak over time. I just felt better having the heavier original upper and lower tanks on mine. Just my 2 cents. |

Re: new used radiator thoughts
I went with one out of a 70's era Dodge. They have "L" shaped brackets mounted down the sides and bolt right to the front firewall bypassing the need to use the factory chevy radiator mounts, which were missing from my truck. The hose connections also match up. Mine is from a Dodge based motorhome so it is a heavy duty unit and I got it with a shroud for $50.
