1984 crate motor

I found out today I have a gm good wrench crate motor 84-85 I was changing the pan gasket and I have the oil pan that the dipstick can be on either side. mine is on the drivers side, my question is I am leaking oil from the place where the dipstick would be on the passenger side. what kinda of fitting is in the hole and how would I fix this problem.

I believe it is just a plug with a bit of RTV around it.

Take a flat blade, and drive it into the offending plug. Twist, and pry out. Clean up with brake clean. Apply a generous amount of RTV, and pop in the new plug.

I think a 9mm shell casing can be used if you have one of those around.

The engines originally came with a steel slug that you drove into the unused hole. Kind of like a short dowel pin.

Re: 1984 crate motor

I had the same problem, I bought a crate and they give you 2 size plugs. The only problem is one plug is way to small the other plug seems a little big, I fabricated some to put there but I still have the plugs. Is the plug suppost to be so tight you have to beat it in with a hammer? If it gets plugged there's no way it will ever come out.

Yes, you have to hammer the plug in place. It's not going to come out unless you take the oil pan off and come in from below with a hammer and punch to knock it back out.
