Question 62 GMC K15 P/S gear box

I have a 1962 GMC K15 with power steering. The P/S gear box leaks from where the steering column input shaft connects. I have a few questions. Is there any way to fix this leak without getting a new gear box? Does the gear box need to come from a 4wd truck or are they all the same? Could I use a later model gear box? If so would I need a new pump?
Sorry for all the questions. I'm new to this and I'm trying to get all the bugs worked out.

Thanks!

Re: 62 GMC K15 P/S gear box

You can buy a seal kit for the power steering boxes. It will be easier to do if you remove the box from the truck. Yes 4x4 steering boxes are different than 2wd boxes. It is just the sector shaft (output shaft) that is different though.
The steering boxes are interchangeable from '68-'86 for the C and K series and '87-'91 for the V and R series. In about 1980, GM changed the fitting style from SAE inverted flare to Metric with an O-ring.

Re: 62 GMC K15 P/S gear box

Does anybody know where I can find this Input Shaft seal or seal kit for my truck? Or maybe some part #'s?
I'm having a hard time finding these parts.

Thanks!

first thing is to identify what you have for a steering box as K series didn't come with p/s. it may have been a dealer install, but they never came from the factory with it. a picture may help. std p/s boxes(2x4) utilized grease as there was a hydr. ram set-up.
