Panel With Barn Door Hinges Or Without Barn Door Hinges?

What do you guys think? Panel with barn door hinges outside or with barn door hinges inside? What looks better?

I like the smoothie look of no visible hinges. How is that accomplished?

Personally I like the "Old Fashion" look. I like the visible hinges, the stuck out push button door handles. The full drip rail. round button door locks. etc.

I know the shaved smooth look is popular but for me there is just something about the "primitive look" that just appeals to me.

I have a '64 panel and I like the exterior hinges. But I would also like it if they were hidden and smoothed. Kinda feel neutral on it.

In the cabinetmaking trade there are heavy duty hidden hinges known as "SOSS" hinges. Off the top of my head, it seams these could possibly be adapted for this application. A custom "pocket" would need to be fabricated in the frame of the door and the surround for each hinge.
