6 cyl engine ID assistance
Hi all .. I am new to the board as well as the new owner of a basket case 1962 Chevy C10 Stepside shortbed. She has a 3 sp manual in the floor and I was told the engine is not original and is a 292 engine. The engine is defiantly a straight 6. The engine ID # is F0409PC. Here is my problem .. I can't find a PC designation in any of the chevy engine code lists. Any ideas ? Thank in advance for the help.

are the motor mounts in the sam location or offset. Any pis of it?

Here is the only picture I have handy ... the believe the motor mounts are in the same location / position.

someone looked at it and thought it was an L25 292 .. made from 77-88 and used in UPS delivery trucks .. but again the numbers do not match any charts.

Its definitely a 230 or 250. 292's had pushrod covers that were much taller than the ones on 230/250 engines. The fuel pump and engine mount positions also were swapped.

Thanks .. so how do I ID which it really is ? 230 or 250 ?
The number behind the distributor is #F0409PC ... this doesn't match any code list I have found to date. |

The only thing I could find is that F is for Flint assembly plant, and the PC is 66-67 230. I found that on a Nova site, about halfway down the page in the left column.

There's numbers all over the engine. There should be one behind the bottom of the dipstick. If you have a phone with a camera and flash, take a pic and see what you come up with. Mine is 2775308, which is a Made in Mexico 250ci.
Once you have the numbers, this site should tell you what the engine is ... http://www.inliners.org/casting/numbers.html
