fleetside beds
After looking at Nathan Hale's truck from texas. I think i want a fleetside bed now. My question is can you buy the sides & mount to the stepside bed are they rare or do i have a good chance of finding one. I am not asking to buy just my odds of finding one.

I think your chances of finding a good one are pretty slim, although not impossible. If you do find one it should look just as good on a 56 as it does on a 59. One of the other forum members is working on reproducing those so that might be an option. http://all59gmc.com
Have you considered a Cameo bed? Those are available new, but not cheap. BTW, how's the bbw conversion coming? |

the fleetside beds came out in 58 and have no parts in common with the stepside bed
no vendor sells parts or patch panels for fleetside beds, your only choice is to find a used bed the cameo beds were available 55-58 and are fiberglass fenders that bolt onto the stepside bed sides like russel siad mast of the parts are available new, costly but you can buy them as far as opinions: sexy

They show up here occassionaly. Short are rarer than long because they were used primarily for trade vehicles. I read somewhere that in 58 they were evey rarer than the cameo option. Tailgates are common to later years with minor differences in text (I think). If you want a short FS you can cut down an 8 foot one in front and and behind the wheel well, some one here has a build thread on it. Wood bed parts are repoped.

I'll admit that I learned something today. I thought a Cameo was a marketing name for a Fleetside truck. This discussion got me researching it further and I see it's actually a stepside bed with, essentially, fill panels to take it out to the cab sides. I just assumed the Cameo would have inner fender wells like modern trucks.
I wonder how my 50 would look as a Cameo?
