Medium Duty Disc Brake Conversion
Has anyone here converted to disc brakes? Looking to put 22.5" super singles on the front of my 5500. I've read a bit about the p30 spindle interchangability. Just looking to see what else you guys have done.

Re: Medium Duty Disc Brake Conversion
Probably need to be looking at late 4500/5500 Kodiak/TopKick parts to make something like that happen. Why would you want to step down to P30 parts? Why do you want tires that are load rated 8-10K each? Without a fair load on them they ride like they are solid rubber.

Re: Medium Duty Disc Brake Conversion
I have a 66 C-60 truck with a bed that was made to haul grain that dumps. It still works as it should and the truck with only 28 thousand miles was given to me. I know to bad it is not a 67-72 it is in really good shape being that it had been kept in a tractor shed its entire life with the exception of the last 10 months or so. I also have a motor home on a P30 chasis that I had the idea that I wanted to get the brand new michelens 19.5's off of it and put on my C-60 , I am just gonna use it to haul scrap metal from my body shop once or twice a year we are talking maybe 60 miles. But I had the discs and the new tires but I got to looking and although theking pings are the same size and what not the spindles and dstuff are close the wheel pattern is way off. Soo to do it you would need to get an axle from a late topkick or a lte 4500 -5500-6500 truck and there is a place I think in MO that sell them om E-Bay fairly cheap from hub to hub. That might be the best way to go I was gonna look into it more for when I got to do my 70 C-60 dually truck project but that is on a permanant hold for now

Re: Medium Duty Disc Brake Conversion
"World-class braking
To go along wīth all that class-leading power is world-class braking, thanks to new hydraulic four-wheel antilock-disc-brake systems wīth standard four-channel ABS, electronic brake distribution and available traction control. The C4500 and C5500 trucks use two systems to optimize performance for particular GVW requirements, but both offer reduced stopping distances, lower pedal effort and quieter, longer-life operation. Depending on the required capacity, the brakes use either a HydroBoost (C4500) or HydroMax (C5500) booster for their actuation. Both operate on the same principle, wīth the power-§teering pump supplying the booster power. A tandem (split) master cylinder provides the independent front and rear circuits for the hydraulic brake system. Sensors warn the driver of 'low fluid' or secondary brake failure. A traction-control system, available for the first time, helps in improving acceleration and vehicle stability on slippery surfaces by employing the ABS hardware to help control wheelspin." http://www.conceptcarz.com/z18383/GMC-TopKick.aspx
