3.73 posi unit question

I have a 3.73 posi unit and was wondering if a 3.08 gear would bolt up on it or is their a special gear i would have to buy..in other words,does posi units for 3.73 work with 3.08 gears?

I would say that they are both on on a three series carrier and you would be ok.

I had a 72 with a 3.08 posi rear and had to install a ring gear spacer to use 3.73 gears, that was with original gears from another rear end. I wouldn't use the spacer again, after a year, the longer bolts all failed.

differant size ring gears require differant carriers but you can order ring gears for what ever carrier you have. i bought mine from richmond. mine was a 3.08 and went to a 3.73 without having to use a shim.when you order tell them what gear you have now so they will know what carrier you have so they will send you the right gear with the right thickness to fit you carrier.

i looked in summit racing mag and didnt see one that was set up for that but it would be best for you to call and ask to see if they have a ring and pinion set that will work on your posi carrier
