Steering column question
Hey guys, I am normally on the 60-66 forum but my 63' has a column from a 71 that we just put in this weekend. I need a diagram of the column where it shows all the components, mainly the horn assembly. I was given the column and when I hooked up the horn wire, the horn would not shut off. I believe the PO put it together wrong and I need to know the order of assembly, it is a stock wheel. Also, does the "PRNDL23" window light up? There is a wire coming from it but no bulb. What is the wire for?

Re: Steering column question
No tilt...no pics at this time but the PRNDL23 unit mounts with two screws and then ther is this second piece that comes up behind it that has a screw to hold it down. Under it is a black wire with a metal end on it that goes into the flourescent marker indicating what gear you are in. There is no room for a bulb. The other end of the wire has the same metal end like it would pug into a harness somewhere. This wire is separated from the turn signal wiring unit.

Re: Steering column question
The wire is actually a clear plastic like fiber optics. The other end should have a bulb holder that would have gone to the back of the gauge cluster. When you turn the lights on , the glow would travel to the PRND21 to light it....

Re: Steering column question
C10monkey has it right, I don't think your truck has a printed circuit to use the bulb socket that went with the fiber optic cable. You may need to do some customizing, just need to get open end of cable to a light source.

Re: Steering column question
How about the horn unit? Stock wheel. Have 3 pieces and need to know the order. A plastic ring, a metal cup and a thin metal disk.

Re: Steering column question
OK, this is from memory so it may be wrong (been a while and I'm gettin old) first the concave plate(spring) high side up then the cup then the plastic ring with the nubs going thru both the cup and spring tighten the screws.
