I am having trouble deciding

Attached is a pic of my interior now except the glove box lid is now black ripple like the dash surround. I have real nice original seat and the black and white houndstooth cover from Truckseats like the one pictured and also a set of GMT 800 2003 Integrated Shoulder belt seats ( with power both sides ) like the 3rd pic that I can install. I had decided to go with the original bench but keep thinking I should put in the 50/50's with the shoulder belts. I would appreciate feedback and opinions good or bad. I'm not going to do the seat install until May/June so I have time to decide.

I vote for pic 2. Original. I always thought the newer seats look out of place in these trucks, but they are probably more comfy.

Re: I am having trouble deciding

How much will you be driving it... not just how often, but will you be taking many long trips in it? If it's gonna be mostly short recreational driving, I'd go with the houndstooth cover on the original bench. But for extended driving, the comfort of those power buckets would be awfully hard to pass up.

Re: I am having trouble deciding

I too prefer the look of the original seat, but would really enjoy the comfort of the power buckets and that is my dilema.

If I wouldn't have been so stubborb I could have a set of original re done houndstooth buckets with console and that would have solved my problem. I'll explain, I was at the Pomona Swap Meet and found the buckets and console there. The seller was an old hardhead like me and after haggling over 50.00 ( yea, $50.00 ) I decided to go get somthing to eat and while eating decided I'd pay the 50 and take them. Guess what, when I got back a 1/2 hour later they were gone.

Re: I am having trouble deciding

Two things here. The shoulder harness puts a lot of load the floor was not originally designed for in the event of an accident. Does your truck currently have the bucket seat cross brace?

I like the factory look but could see the desire for a power seat.
Maybe converting the bench to power or better yet factory buckets on power bases. Toss in some seat heaters as well.

I am aware of thr bracing issues with the newer seats and will do that if I install them.

Re: I am having trouble deciding

Really depends on you in the long run. Plus your height and girth plays in that too. The head rests would bother me some what. Like mentioned before four hour rides in a comfy seat sometimes out weighs other factors. Personally, I would set the other seat temp and take it for a short run to see if you like it. Those Black n white covered bench seats are killer looking and really look good in your truck.

I vote the original style seat.

I do not like seeing tall seats or headrests thru the back windows of trucks.

Re: I am having trouble deciding

It would seem the only way those fatter new seat would be comfortable is with a teeny steering wheel,as shown. But,the legs may still want more room lengthwise. Not sure how big you are,I guess that plays a part. I vote the original seat. They don't feel uncomfortable to me. I've driven cross-country many times. The factory cloth seats are very comfortable to me.

Re: I am having trouble deciding

I say #2 looks best and that is the look I am going for.

Considering that my truck currently has buckets seats that came out of a grayhound bus or lear jet and a steering wheel that you could drive if you had handcuffs on.(What was the p.o.thinking!?) I did some research on line and looks like my current seats are late model van. They are both captian chairs with armrests and the drives seat has a swivel function. They are mounted so high off the floor I feel like a Rat Fink character!!

My search goes forward for a stock bench seat and rails, even it if has no foam or upholestery!

The seats in pic #3 look like they might have removable headrests.

I had the back window dark tinted last year ( and I know some don't like that look either) in anticipation of installing the newer seats because I agree seeing headrests through the back window doesnt look good.

Thanks for the opinions so I am now thinking I'll install the original black and white houndstooth and try it and if it doesn't work for me then try the newer seat, our trucks are never done are they?

Stock seat with 3 point seat belts. I have the seats you show in my 00 Z71. They're not bad, but honestly, they're not much better than the stock 67-72 seat with GOOD padding and springs. Also, what good is a power seat if it has to be all the way back in the first place? I'm barely 5'8" and I wish I could slide the seat farther back! The newer seats are "thick", they won't help solve that issue.

Re: I am having trouble deciding

Here is the bench I picked up for my truck. It looks to me as it is in great shape and I figure I'll paint and clear or powdercoat the brackets. How do you determine how good or bad the foam is, I'm thinking by sitting on it and see how it feels, or is there a scientific way?

Did you buy that one off kijiji? If so, I think it was the one I was trying to buy. At least it went to a board member. Nice score, it looks really clean.

Yes I did this past November. I had to go to Moose Jaw to get it but it was worth it. The seller has beautiful loaded BB 72 GMC Sierra Grande that the seat came out of. The GMC came with factory buckets and they were removed and my seat insatlled while his kids were young. He had the seat sitting in his gargae for many years.

Yeah, thats the one. It was a little too far for me to drive. He was gonna ship it to me if it didn't sell local by the end of that week. You win

Re: I am having trouble deciding

i agree on the factory seat with houndstooth, a bench with good foam is never uncomfortable plus the seat was onviously redone at one point judging by the tags on the back and the bottom, just flip it down and sit on it and you'll be able to tell if its good or not, put it so the back is against a wall or something sturdy so you can actually sit back in it like you would when your driving, if you dont you might flip over.... dont ask me how i know lol

by the way whatever seat you decide on using i may be interested in buying the one you dont use

your seat and truck are real nice, but most bucket seats are better for driving, mine has a bench seat , but if i ever find some buckets seats i will change them . i like bucket seats.
