Hey folks, couldn't find a thread that focused on steering setups. Right now I have a manual rack in my 66 with the I6 250. I have a 1990 suburban donor that I will be pulling the 350/700R4 and any other goodies to swap into the 66. The truck is bagged with a homemade dropmember. (pancaked) So if there is already a thread out there like this let me know or start posting those pics.

Not sure about a pancaked crossmember, but Rob's kit is bad ass.

This is the best pic I have right now of my set up. Not sure how this will work when I drop the 350 in there.

The closest build I can think of is this one that member "can't kech me" and his dad aggie91 are building. The crossmember isn't pancaked but it's raised in the frame 1.5". They're using No Limit's rack kit.

Thank you for the responses. I don't know why I didn't think about checking out the suspension forum. I just always come to the 60-66 section.
I have checked out both of recommended threads and a couple others in the suspension forum. Looks like my setup may be ok as is. Guess I'll just have to drop in the motor and hope everything clears.

Here's mine- Home built crossmember-raised 3", moved forward 1", 1988 T-Bird rack and pinion(power), 2600 bags.

That's a good looking setup Tincan. One of the things I'm noticing especially with the pancaked or custom crossmembers is the motor mounts. The motor mounts and the power steering pump on the 350 are my main concerns for interference.
Tincan, have you mocked up the steering shaft with the motor in? headers?

Sorry for the late response 3rd coast. Yes I have actually had 2 different engine set ups locked up. First was a TBI small block- thats the mounts seen in the pic in my first post. Then we were going with a big block- this required a front style motor mount and a mid plate. Thus as the project progresses, I am now building a turbo 292 with TBI injection.
In short I will have plenty of clearance, because I am making all my own brackets, too.

Worth mentioning here. IN NO WAY do I think there is anything wrong with any of the other drop members out there. I merely built my own to see if I could.
Since we run a small custom shop, our projects are the guinea pigs, lol. So far I am pleased with the stance and overall function as tested in shop.
