Great Day!

Today I took my 17 yr old son to an old school junk yard where you get to roam around the yard and pull parts. Around here in WA most yards don't let you do that any more. I used to do it when I was a teen looking for parts for my Datsun 510 but for insurance reasons they all seemed to not allow that anymore. We had a blast! Found a stock front bumper, an original steering wheel with horn button, an original rear view mirror, an original gas cap and several misc parts and peices for $80. We were like two kids in a candy store with our x-mas money!

Re: Great Day!

That sounds like a Perfect day.

Nice to have your son with you.
Mine is 17 too, only leaves the house to go to his fathers place over weekends and to school. He pretty much only leaves his bedroom with PC, Xbox etc to forrage for food or to go to the crapper. I do miss having someone to share my hobbies or gathering "stuff"

Heres a thread I keep on the stuff I gather to fuel my hobbies.

LINK. http://www.retrorides.proboards.com/...y&thread=89875

In years to come your son will look back at the day as a great day in his life.
I am 50 on the 17th and still remember all the stuff we did with my dad.

Re: Great Day!

Cars and trucks are our thing. It helps to have a father in law who is a retired Boeing Machinist and a big shop who really wants to be involved also. We dont have a huge budget but that is what makes it fun. My youngest is 11 and he also has the interest but will be more into it when he has his own car. He wants a 67 Buick Skylark 2 door!

Re: Great Day!

The other day when we got home, he did all the dishes in the kitchen to empty the sink so he could wash everything by hand and clean everything up. Yesterday after school he bundled up ( it was 35 deg out) and completely sanded down the front bumper we got. Later today we are headed over to grandpa's shop to paint it up and get it on the truck. The bumper is the last external part to really complete the look and he wants it on ASAP.
