Is it worth it?
I posted this a couple weeks ago when it had the motor and it was selling for $1600. Now without the engine it's selling for $650. I think it's a good deal and I might go after it and make a good plow truck for myself. I know the front axle is for a 3/4 ton but for the type of work I would use it for it's good enough. So do you think it's worth it or not?

Re: Is it worth it?
I just sold a good cab but it was bare & had no doors for $750
Last summer I bought a mis-matched SWB 2 wheel drive with a shot 305 engine for $1800....So to me, this is definitely worth it!

Re: Is it worth it?
Seems pretty clean. If I was in the market I would probably buy it.

I'd be all over that. The later dash fits? I didn't think they were interchangeable.

Re: Is it worth it?
As long as you don't want to restore it to top condition, I think it looks ok from here. Sounds like you just want a beater anyway. I am surprised not to see any rust. Did you check the under carriage for rust? If the frame/suspension are rusted through, then I would walk away.
I am thinking about bidding on this one at auction - can't check it out until Friday - auction is Saturday. http://www.leaderpublicauction.com/v...rl=%2Fvehicles I did walk around it and it looks like it might have been used to pull a camper and/or a slide in truck camper. It has two threaded inserts on each fender, about 4 inches apart, on each fender - maybe for some kind of camper stabilizers? It has trailer hitches on front and rear, so maybe was pulling a boat also, since it is 2WD. The bottom side and fenders look rust free, but there are bondo patches flaking at about the middle of each door - I think there may have been tripod style mirrors on the truck and at some point may have been hit and dented the middle of the doors. I think it is a $500 truck - just for parts if nothing else. Too bad it is a "smoker" - must really smoke bad if they mentioned it in the ad. |

Re: Is it worth it?
I'm going to check it out tomorrow after work, only about 10 miles from where I work. Talked to the guy and he said the front axle was replaced before he bought it with a dana 44 out of a 3/4 ton and the transmission is a jasper rebuild. Overall he said it is in good condition for it's age, and for being a minnesota rust belt truck it does look good in the pictures.

Re: Is it worth it?
If it was closer I would buy it in a heartbeat. I have been looking for a K30. They are hard to find especially at that price. Is that a newer cab on it. Newer dash?

Re: Is it worth it?
Newer cab would be my guess, to my knowledge 81-87 dash won't work with 73-80.

Re: Is it worth it?
Are you sure it's a k"30" and not a k"20" with a dually bed and rear axle?

Re: Is it worth it?
Update: I bought it today! When I looked it over it had the usual minnesota rust (rockers, cab corners, floor, etc.) but the rest of the body was pretty clean. The frame looks solid yet so I figured it's worth a try and I know the parts alone are worth more then what I payed for it. The guy is going to deliver it tomorrow for me, which is a big help.
As for the details yes it is a true 1 ton, the vin # checks out. It does appear to have the newer dash installed. The cab looks original with the vin plate in the door jamb. Paint looks as if it may be original. I'll find out more when I get it. One question though: On the box sides and back of the tailgate the're are emblems that say "THE BOSS" do any of you know if these are just generic emblems or maybe a special edition? (like camper special models) |

Re: Is it worth it?
Glad you got it! Sucks that the front D60 is gone though.

Re: Is it worth it?
I would think it was worth close to that in scrap, even without an engine.
