Re: Can I Move This In????
Kevin of KevsClassics did mine and what a world of difference. Look him up, he's here on the board.

Re: Can I Move This In????
This is my 71 with a 14 inch Nardi wheel and an early 90's split bench. The seat sits a bit high and makes my 5'10" look like 6'5" to people who see me driving it.
Anyhow this is about the extra room with a 14 inch steering wheel as apposed to a stock wheel. From the bottom of the dash next to the column to the face of the wheel is 14 inches From the floor in front of the seat to the bottom of the wheel it's 19 inches. You can slide the column down a bit by loosening the clamps that hold it under the dash and out on the firewall and slipping it down a bit. Under the dash is a plate that has to be removed and then you can reach the clamp and loosen it. You can see the clamp in the oval hole in the plate here. Terrible photo but you can see the clamp on the outside in the middle of this photo. As it's a column shift automatic you will have to adjust the shift linkage after you slide the column down to compensate. You will also have to collapse the slip joint in the shaft between the U joint and the rag joint a bit to compensate for sliding the column down and that is going to be the hardest part of the whole deal. I'm 5-10 and 280 and fit in my truck fine with plenty of room but as I said the seat could be a bit lower and I have been thinking about sectioning the seat bases to lower it an inch or so.

Re: Can I Move This In????
This was the first thing my son and I did to our truck.
My son was 8 at the time and with just a little direction and some hand tools, he did all the work himself. WE only went in a little over an inch because the neutral safety switch hits the firewall pad, but that was enough to give us some breathing room. check it out... 1st post http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=513605

Re: Can I Move This In????
it is possible to move the colum down, but you will need to modify your shift linkage
