Auxiliary Gas Tanks?

Hi All.
I am new to the forum and '67-'72 Chevy trucks.

I recently purchased a '72 Cheyenne 1/2 ton, long-bed 4x4, that has the gas tank located in the cab behind the seat.
I would like to add fuel capacity.

I'd rather not cut holes in the bed sides as the truck is pretty straight, I'd like to keep the spare tire where it is, and don't want a tank taking up precious cargo space in the bed.

I am not too concerned with originality, and I'm not really interested in cobbling together something from used parts.

So...is there a place that sells complete auxiliary fuel tack systems for these trucks that meets the criteria I have outlined?

I realize I am being pretty particular, but this is more of a want than a need, so I am willing to live without if I can't find what I want.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Rich

Re: Auxiliary Gas Tanks?

Welcome from New Mexico!

You've limited yourself but there is an option. Aftermarket (vintage!) auxiliary tanks can be located that mount outside the frame rails, ahead of the rear wheels, and have fillers that are accessed through the rear wheel wells. These bolt to the bed floor.

Here's a similar tank (factory aux tank used for 72) but with a filler neck located in a different spot to what I describe. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=535733

Maybe another member can post a pic of a truck with an aux tank filler in the wheel well?

Another option would be to mount an OEM in-bed spare tire carrier and add a rear tank but you'd lose a small amount of bed space to the tire.

Good luck, Pete

The period aftermarket, wheel well fill, saddle tanks were like these examples.

Send a PM to t korinek - he's in Phoenix and sells used/new parts. If Tom doesn't have a set try posting a want to buy add here on the parts board - shipping the tanks would be pricey but I had a 72 factory aux tank shipped to me.
