5.3 Vortex motor question

I just picked up my motor, and I have a few questions of concern? 1. I was told I was getting a 2003 5.3 Vortex motor, transmission, and transfer case, what I got when I ran the vin# it came out to be out of a 1999 Silvarado. The motor has been completely rebuilt. Should I have any concern about the motor? 2. It also went $1500 over original estimate. Is there a difference between a 1999 vrs 2003 motor?

Re: 5.3 Vortex motor question

There were some changes made like camshaft profiles and compression ratios depending on the model. If it's been rebuilt it's hard to say what you have now unless machine shop provided you with specifics on the build.

I'm not as familiar with the 5.3's on this fact but I can tell you that the 6.0's used cast iron heads up through about 2000 and didn't get aluminum heads until 2001.

Re: 5.3 Vortex motor question

if u still have the a 350 tranny and transfer case i will keep it in the truck, both will work great, but fixing a 350 is cheaper in the future. if engine is rebuild it will work as new,

Re: 5.3 Vortex motor question

You should post over in the LSx section in the engine area.

Probably, you're o.k. as long as you trust your engine builder...
