Re: 61 GMC 2 Ton truck radios

It looks a lot like my old one which was in my '66 GMC Pick-up. If it is exactly like mine, it will have a built-in speaker and, sorry to say, was very poor quality.

Cool truck though.

I'm more impressed by the Factory 4-Way Flashers (at the left of the picture).

I spotted that flasher too!
I just found one in a junkyard (flasher unit) and will be going to get it on Thursday.

I wonder why that GMC has a Chevy hood? With the V6 emblem in the right place for a GMC too.

Those V6 emblems are 62-66 only. 60-61 are round and placed on the fender.

Re: 61 GMC 2 Ton truck radios

If you look closely you can see the radio IS NOT OEM, they have the original hole just to the left of the power/volum knob. I've seen thsi type of knob before late 60's model???

That hood looks good.
But it is DEFINITELY a Chevy hood, not a GMC hood.

Odd combo.
What engine is in it?

I agree, that is definitely a 61 Chevy hood with 62-66 GMC V6 logo.

What knobs are on the heater controls? I am still missing one (heat I think) in the gray.

I can TOTALLY see the hood and flasher making the deal on that truck.
How are the doors?

And of course, if there's a tach or air pressure gauge, those are big scores too.

Re: 61 GMC 2 Ton truck radios

Speaking of two ton trucks........

I have been driving this one particular road off and on over the last 6 months and on this last trip home I spotted an old 61 sitting out back in a pasture.

Just happen to have a friend that lives in that little town who is going over and talking to the owner, whom he happens to know.

Maybe will own one myself in a few days.....never know.

What a great deal - doors, an early hood, and the flasher! Good for you. The radio definitely looks aftermarket to me. Sears, Montgomery Wards, and J.C. Whitney sold universal radios like the one pictured back when these trucks were new. I wouldn’t think it would have much value being a bare bones model.

its probably gonna stay there I pulled all the usable parts out today its pretty bare in there took the heater and everything out if it unbolted and had value and was good or could be used came out the rest is headed for china hate to see these go to scrap but when you take off everything usable I dont feel so bad and the floors are shot but the doors are perfect and the hood has a couple of rust bubbles but non thru too bad my trucks are 64-66 but for the price wasnt gonna let it go by me the parts I can use will end up in the parts for sale forum

Make sure you grab the steering column--it's a floor-shift column collar, so someone will want it.

Did it have cable-actuated kick-panel vents?

that column in the big trucks like that people actually want? and I think the vents were manual not with the cables will have to double check tho

I think just the part below the steering wheels, where the turn signal handle comes through.

If someone has a bolt-action 3spd on the column, and wants to change to a floor shift, they need that collar.
