5.3 swap power steering
I am doing a 5.3 swap and I have the 5.3 power steering pump. I currently have manual steering and was wondering what power steering box I need. The truck is a 1970 2wd. Thanks for the help.

Re: 5.3 swap power steering
A factory style power steering box will do fine. Several ways to go about connecting the lines, I used earls fittings and braided hose, but you could probably have one built at your local parts house.

Re: 5.3 swap power steering
Count the splines on your manual box... I don't remember exactly what it is but it is different from the power box splines. It does however, match the spline count from an approx 1978+ power steering box that has matching metric o-ring hydraulic power steering hoses...(I'm not positive on the year Chevy switched from flare fittings to o-ring.)
Therefor, you can use your stock rag joint and buy stock power steering hoses (from that same 78+ truck.) That's what I did on my '72 5.3 conversion.

Re: 5.3 swap power steering
If you use a stock box you can use a factory 68-72 power steering hoses, if you pull the fitting the hose screws into out of an 68-72 power steering pump and replace the fitting on the back of your 5.3 pump.
This way you can get replacement parts at any parts store and it looks factory. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 5.3 swap power steering
My 67 GMC had 81 power steering and brakes when I got it in 97 and I used the stock hoses from the 04 truck LQ9 with a metric fitting for the 81 power steering box.
