71 tie rod taper?
Hi guys
I recently switched to 71 drop spindles, and as you guys know the inner tie rods are different. I went with the CPP billet tie rod sleeve so the conversion sleeve is not an option. I have searched locally for a 71 center-link to no avail. which leads me to my next question I am looking to purchase a tie rod taper reamer to fix the current one I have now. Does anybody know the taper of tie rod, there seems to be a few different GM tapers. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Jon |

Re: 71 tie rod taper?
Hotchkis sells an aftermarket centerlink.
Personally I would use the conversion tie rod sleeve. 63-70 conversion spindles would have eliminated all these issues. I found out the hard way, by using 71-72 spindles also. Never again. Good luck with your search.

Re: 71 tie rod taper?
I contacted hotchkis about their center link but they do not sell it separately only in a kit with the control arms. And from what I can understand is that they use the 67-70 tie rods to. Here's the story as to why I switched, my truck is originally a 71 2wd my brother-inlaw (The P.O.) put it on a 4wd frame and jacked it up. He got bored with it and I traded him for it, only after he sold the original frame. I found a 68 frame and have been putting it back together. So I wanted to get it all back to the same year. Hence the situation I am in. Sorry for the long story. I guess I will take it to a machinest and see if they can fix it?
