Tv cable?

Been doing lots of reading about tv cable options for the 700r4 going into my 66. Im a little confused because Bowtie Overdrive gives a spring in their kit and says it needs to be installed or tranny will die. Is this only because of the geometry of their kit? I know my 700r4 works fine as I was able to drive it a good ways before pulling it. Am I gonna kill the trans if I just put the Edelbrock bracket on the throttle to correct geometry? Besides being able to slightly change shift behavior what else does the bowtie kit accomplish?

Re: Tv cable?

All I know about the TV cable is, if you set it up wrong, you will smoke your tranny!!

If your unsure how to do it, find someone that does!!

Re: Tv cable?

Pretty certain I can set tv cable once geometry is correct! My concern is why bow tie says the spring is needed with their kit or tranny will die!

Re: Tv cable?

You might try calling Bowtie Overdrives and ask them. I'm sure there is a good reason for it.

Re: Tv cable?

the reason for the spring is like insurance.
It's there to cover your butt
In most cases the spring is worn out & unless you remove it and measure it you will never know.
They have has seen to many transmissions burn up due to the spring alone, so they offer the spring & say you MUST change it... so you do just that change it out.
This way you are 100% sure that the spring in your transmission is good.
