Options Please. White or Black soft top?
I'm buying a soft top. Not sure what color to buy. I'm leaning toward white. My hard top is white.
What do you think? Thanks in advance for your opinions. Tim Posted via Mobile Device Posted via Mobile Device

I normally lean towards white, but yours would look good with black. Black hard top, too. JMHO

I can see that. Not sure if I will ever put the hard top on again. I think I popped a nut last time I moved it. Thanks for the input. Tim Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Options Please. White or Black soft top?
Are you planning on using the soft top all the time, or will you be running without a top in the summer? I think white would be a little cooler in the summer, especially with your black interior. I do think black would look good on your Blazer, though.

I think black would look really good. Also, what size tires are you running?

Re: Options Please. White or Black soft top?
Yep - black would look the best. A while back a member had been posting some type of 'attachment' that went along the top of the windshield for securing the snaps for the top (versus drilling a bunch of holes into your metal). Does anybody know what happened with that? I too have a black soft top I want to install for the same reasons (rain), but would hate drilling holes.......

Re: Options Please. White or Black soft top?
I know you already pretty much decided, but I vote for black too. I just recently saw a white soft top pass by my job (on a 2wd blazer of all things too), and just didn't care for it too much...kinda brought too much attention to the top itself.
Great looking blazer btw.

Re: Options Please. White or Black soft top?
I've got an orange Blazer with a white soft top. I went with white because I've got the off-white interior. The top is more of an off-white and almost a perfect match to the interior.
That said, I think that Black would look best with your black interior.

Re: Options Please. White or Black soft top?
and stains are much easier to hide on black.
I run a soft top year round (of course I dont DD the Jimmy), and have found that even when up the black doesnt heat up too much in sun. My favorite is to roll the sides/back up for that Safari look...shady, but breezy, and no blind spots. This summer I plan on figuring out some sort of bikini top. |

Looks like you have a darker interior so I would go with black also.

I also vote for black, and please post some pics once you get the soft top...I've been trying to decide whether or not to get one myself.

Re: Options Please. White or Black soft top?
Thanks for the picture Gary. TexasJimmy-look forward to seeing the top on!
Gary-when the weather is nice, do you typically remove the top entirely, or just run with the sides rolled up like in the picture? If you do remove it entirely, is that a fairly simple/quick process? I believe there are rails with snaps that have to be installed on the rails and windshield frame..do these need to be removed if you were to put the hard top back on? |

NOTE: Full disclosure....the Soft top is not a perfect fit for our truck, but it is pretty close. I really like it and think it is a good option for guys like me who can't go topless year round. (I didn't like the idea of putting on and removing the hardtop). The Blazer is my daily driver and I have driven it in the cold, rain, snow, fog all with no issues.

Re: Options Please. White or Black soft top?
OK, so a few questions about the soft top: How well does it keep out water, and how well does it keep in heat? When you put it down, does it store in the back, like a regular convertible top? If so, does it create any problems using the tailgate?
Thanks. |

Re: Options Please. White or Black soft top?
This is a poor picture of how the top sits when folded somewhat neatly and tucking down in the back. I have a tote, full size spare, and a gas can, so I tossed the small tool kit on the top so it couldnt blow around. Usually the truck is mostly empty in the back, and in that case the top sits in the same position, but all the way down to the floor. Doesnt blow around at all. Tailgate still opens/shuts just fine, but with the top folded down in there, opening the tailgate doesnt gain you anything.
Top up temps are just fine. My heater core is new, nothing special, and I think the blower motor is hard wired to low or medium speed setting, its no scorcher but its plenty to keep it toasty even in cold temps (especially taking into account the amount of air sneaking in through rust holes and firewall holes no longer used). Once down, if the outside temp drops, then putting the top back up is a pain. Stretching out the cold shrunken canvas isnt fun. So I plan when I take the top down, that it wont go back up unless I'm home in my garage, or its going to be a sunny day when I play to put it back up. My dad bought the truck new, I bet the hard top was on half the time he drove/raced between March '71 to the mid 80's when we moved. The hard top didnt go on again until we mothballed the truck, so in storage from 1989 to 1995. I wanted the soft top option because it was summer and I was a senior in HS so back to the soft top again. Changed my mind around Homecoming season, and that lasted until spring 1996. Been soft top'ed ever since, and I have intention of putting the hard top back on any time soon. I rarely park it where I cant see it, I dont leave it unattended at the mall/movies/etc, and I like the ability to go on/off in about a minute weather permitting. As for waterproofing, my Bestop that went on in 1996 was brand new at the time. Fit was very snug (had sat in a basement for years boxed up) and it works to hold out water I'd say 90% of the time. Heavy rain and it'll sneak in at the top of the A pillar. Leaks in the bedrails some because the hardware doesnt put the top flush to the outside of the bedrail-so the hard top holes now funnel the wet stuff into the cabin. Doesnt both occupants, but makes keeping the windows defrogged nearly impossible besides the windshield. I really like the newer soft tops, so eventually I may pick one of those up-I doubt my Bestop will survive forever. Erik |
