Sloppy shifter

I looked at a 72 k-10 today with a tilt wheel and when you place it in park the shifter would fall back down, allmost every time, would this be in the column or the external linkage?

THere's a spring inside the column were the shifter level hits agains. This spring is what keeps the lever in the rearward position, forcing you to pull forward then down. The spring is either broken or gone I bet.
