Any 67-72 military trucks
There are all kind of 73 and newer GM military trucks but what about 67-72?

Re: Any 67-72 military trucks
I know that several members have stepsides that were previously military vehicles. They had government Id plates still on them. Maybe they can post some pics.

Re: Any 67-72 military trucks
Hey I have always lurked in the shadows and never posted but I have a 1969 Short step side C10 still wearing its Navy decals (I have washed it so many times that the spray paint the Navy used to cover them up is going to be gone in a year or two). It's been in the family for at least 25 years and I have had it since I was 16... So 11 years. It's been my daily driver the majority since I have owned it. I am finally redoing the much needed front brake system. Was thinking about making a little post with pictures. Those are always fun to check out. Any ways I will try and figure out how to upload pictures and post them on here for you.

Re: Any 67-72 military trucks
I will try to take some pictures of my military stickers and plates and stuff for you guys. O and that one in the glove box.
This truck fits me perfect. This is what it came with from the factory. Radio delete panel HD rear springs (3/4 ton springs... like to call it a 5/8's ton truck) Manual steering box and that was it for options if I remember basically nothing. It had a straight six but I left it at my moms to long and now its long gone I was going to switch it back to the orginal engine too. Kinda tired of the 350. Probably going with a cummins diesel some time in the near future. Last edited by Baker819; 07-03-2013 at 03:37 AM. |

My suburban was once in the navy. Still got the data plate on the glove box.

Re: Any 67-72 military trucks
I can't find the pictures I took, but when I was in the AF back in the early '90's, I did a temporary duty assignment in Utapao, Thailand. It was still an active Thai military base, but used to be a location for the USAF to launch B52's in the Vietnam War. That base was full of '67 - '72 Chevy trucks still being used daily. Most of them still had USAF markings and were painted that dark flat blue the AF uses. I will try to locate some pictures.

If you're careful with Acetone, you should able to get the spray paint off the door without messing up te stenciled paint. I did it on my m1009, my M880, my M101A2 trailer, and my Deuce.

Re: Any 67-72 military trucks
I spaced off taking the pictures for you. I am going out today to work on taking the whole truck down to the frame so I can blast it. So I will bring my camera with me and grab some pictures.

Re: Any 67-72 military trucks
Great looking stepper. It has that old ship look to it.
Out of curiosity, would anyone happen to know if USMC trucks of that same era would have shared the grey paint with the Navy, or if they would have been green? I am assuming green, but have not been able to find any info.

Re: Any 67-72 military trucks
Fairly sure "Haze Gray" is only used in the Navy.

Re: Any 67-72 military trucks
The SPID just screams military truck. Standard things taken for granted, listed as special.
"Engine oil drain plug." How else will you drain used oil for an oil change. Found a few USMC green color codes, and how markings were done, but no examples of a 67-72 truck in service. Seems only the Navy and Air Force used them. The USMC and Army started using GM trucks in the late 70's, so all I found was square bodies.

Re: Any 67-72 military trucks
I believe the oil pan drain plug denotes it has a magnetic oil drain plug.
