who has 2" dropped spindles w/ IFS?
...and can tell me some measurements and/or what tire size you are running?
I have my custom IFS from TCI w/ the 2" dropped spindles all mocked up and tacked in on my frame. Lower control arms are level. My frame is set up at the slight rake, stance and height that I want it to be at and is partially based on other trucks I have seen w/ 2" dropped spindles. I had previously mocked up all the sheet metal like the cab, fenders and a bedside to help visualize where I wanted to be and thus the frame is where it is. However, with where I have everything set up; the center of my hub or spindle is only 11 1/2" from the ground. That only gives me a 23" tire. I was figuring on a 26" tire and know that I should be able to get more than 23"'s. My measurements are: bottom frontmost of frame is about 7", bottom rearmost of frame is about 15 1/2", bottom of frame at xmember is about 9 1/2", front bottom of running board is about 6", highest point in front fender opening is about 23", highest point of rear fender opening is about 23 1/2", and front bumper is about 6". With all that above - I am stuck w/ a 23" tire or I lift the front end 1 1/2" if I put a 26" tire on and I know there are trucks out there w/ about a 26" or bigger tire and as low as my mock up. What do you guys think? Measurements are measurements but, Im kinda thinking something is missing. Best thing for me would to get some actual measurements from people w/ a similar set up. Thanks for any insight here. |

Re: who has 2" dropped spindles w/ IFS?
put your truck year and model in your signature and you will never leave out the year and model of what your asking about.
on my 58 3100 i have a mustII and 28'' tires. truk rides 5'' from rocker panel to earth. if i had 2'' drop spindles and 23'' tires it would ride 1/2'' off the ground top of wheel opening has nothing to do with wheel size, top of my rim barely shows in the rear fender

Remember that things are going to settle a bit after you drive the truck a few mile.
I went back and checked the size and diameter and I ran 195-60- 14 tires on 7 inch rims on the front of the 48 for years and they fit the wheel well pretty well and looked balanced with the 255-60-15 tires on the back on 15x8 inch rims. This I believe was when I had 205 tires on the 14 inch rims. URL=http://s173.beta.photobucket.com/user/mr48chev/media/1948%20Chev%20pickup/2008-01-02-0933-02-2-1.jpg.html][/URL] I'm thinking that with the dropped spindles you are going to have to run at least a 15 inch wheel to be above the scrub line though. I've always viewed dropped spindles as a way to correct a suspension that sets too high after the vehicle is already together without using dropped springs rather than a starting point on a build.

Re: who has 2" dropped spindles w/ IFS?
forgot the truck... 48 chevy 3100. should be in my signature now?
Anyway, I give all the measurements so as to be able to compare w/ what somebody else has for a similar setup. Im mostly planning on a 17" front wheel and 18" rear wheel. My only concern here is that I want (and think I should be able to get) the frame stance I have mocked up & be able to get a much bigger tire than 23"'s. Unless I am missing something?

take out the spring and cut a 2x4 the right legth if you need to visualize it after 3 years of having a load on my springs my a arms are a little lower than level

You could add a block of metal on the frame, watch the travel onthe lower arm to bottom of frame. My wood wheel mockup of a 235/60-18.
