Airbag guys have any comments?

I'm installing air bags on my 65 C10 and then doing my buddies 66. I've researched and think I have it figured out. Here's a run down. Comments and pictures if you've done air bags yourself are always appreciated.

I'm doing this:
Remove the bed.
8" step notch
Rear bags (2600) mounted directly to the frame (notched for air line) and mounting directly to the trailing arm. No cups or plates.
Tank (5gallon) and compressor (Viair 444c) mounted to frame or custom cross-member
Compressor wired with 4 gauge wire
Air system plumbed with 1/4" line
Reinstall bed (notch bed floor or raise it)
Controlled by Air Lift dual needle manual switches under the dash
Font lower control arm cupped with 2600 bags mounted to upper control arm by a plate

Questions:
Will my tire (235/75R15) fit in the front wheel wells?
Will I need to change my shocks?
How deep can my a-arm be cupped?

Re: Airbag guys have any comments?

You need drop shocks, rear shock relocators and an adjustable track bar.
(at a minimum)

Thanks lolife99

I forgot the adjustable track bar. Also want to mention I am not doing drop spindles or front cross-member at this time.

Re: Airbag guys have any comments?

Everything sounds close to mine minus the big notch in the rear. On my front lowers I just boxed tem flush with the lowest point and I run dominator 2600's up front and Firestone 2500's rear. I have twin 3 gal tanks and a smaller compressor wired with 8 ga wiring. Sounds like you got her figured out.

Thanks shortbed70

I was thinking the 8" step notch would leave me room to go lower later. What wheel/tire are you running? Did you alter the front inner fender?

Re: Airbag guys have any comments?

i went the same route as your thinking, except i ran drop spindles and a simple c notch..i made shock relocaters for the front and back. so no new shocks were needed for me. heres some pics of the stance and also my mods to the inner fender.

I have 15-8 and 15-10 with 235-60-15 and 295-50-15. I could easily run a tire about 3" taller with no issues when wheels are straight but I built mine so if I had a line or bag failure I could still drive it. My inner tubs are stock.

Re: Airbag guys have any comments?

Thanks scum1, that fender picture is a great help. Does the tire ever rub or is that plenty of room? And does your c-notch bottom out?

Re: Airbag guys have any comments?

Yeah shortbed70, gotta think ahead. I would rather not tub the fender but if I have to scum1's picture looks easy enough. I like the size wheel and tire I'm running.

Re: Airbag guys have any comments?

i added some aftermarket bumpstops on my lcas to prevent a FULL drop, for safety reasons, so nothing rubs on the front when aired out, assuming the wheels are straight

as for the rear i have found sort of a sweet spot that rides low without bottoming out on the bumpstops, however i sometimes drop the a$$ all the way and cruise too..i chose not to got for the big notch just cuz i like having a fully functional bed, minus the 1 inch raise on mine..

the hood shock idea i stole from member coulter on the forum i swiped then from a pick n pull off a big ole caddy...works great..if you go that route and you have the means, grab a couple extra cuz the first ones i picked only worked for about a week and then they were shot...i went back and grabbed some more and had no problems.

i got tons of pics so let me know if you guys wanna see something.

Re: Airbag guys have any comments?

I did same as u with a dual compressor setup and drop spindles. My wheels are the same size on an 8" rim and fit in wheel well when aired out just don't turn or else you'll need fenders. Bout an inch clearance from inner fender. I'm planning on z ing my frame so ill have to tub my inners. If I were u I'd do drop spindles while your in there. I did same as you are planning and wasn't gonna do spindles after the air ride was installed it wasn't low enough. So tore apart front end again and did spindles and disc brake kit and put 3" blocks on trailing arms. Has a nice stance now but I'm addicted to being lower

Thanks, I will put together a build thread when I get done. I always take lots of pictures. And I'm not sure what I'm doing with my CB750. I ride a chopped up Sportster so my bike needs are met. Plus I have a 49' Buick project so the Honda is a far future project.

Thanks, I wish I could afford the drop spindles or else I'd do it and the disc brake conversion. It's in the plans though. What route did you go with your brake conversion?
