Why do people constantly try and tweek the styling queues that make these trucks so popular?!? I'm not saying we should all drive around in red/white 2 tone Cheyenne short fleets but WTF was this guy thinking? Might as well put an Edsel grille on it. If you're going for over-the-top unique, buy a Ford and bolt a Dodge grille to it, put on some 22's with rubber band tires and put a fart can exhaust on it! Like Fine69 said...

I think it would look great if the grill had the trim around it and a chrome bumper. Like that it looks like the truck was dechromed and it has one big piece of chrome on the front. I'm "old school" so you can never get enough chrome.

You guys are starting to sound like Corvette snobs. Just appreciate the effort that the owner made to create his own personal ride.

It is different. I don't know if I like the bumper or not. Looks fake, doesn't compliment the original design. I am having trouble trying to figure out some way to change mine. It is really hard to make an improvement on something that has looked so good for so long.

I appreciate all different style ideas. In my opinion, I think that this one just looks out of place. Now with a fresh coat of red paint it might not stand out as much and look great. As of now it just stands out from the rest of the truck instead of blending together with all of the other modifications. It looks to be a no frills truck except for that part. You don't want to be cruising and have everyone just staring at the grill.

I really like the idea. I also agree with Tom Hand about chroming it out and actually putting some decent paint on it. All it needs in addition is the egg crate behind. Great custom idea. I would like to know how the guy got the curves to blend together so well. Anyone that tries this please post progress!

One possible explanation
The guy is almost finished with his Blazer project except for the grille ovals which we all know are expensive items.
He also has a 2001 Silverado and comes agross a killer deal on a custom grille for it he can't pass up, so he buys and installs it. Trouble is, the Silverado grille eats into his budget to complete the Blazer. Not to be deterred from completing the Blazer, the "morphing" of his now available stock Silverado grille onto his "oval-less" 68 grille comes to pass. Ta-daaaah - a 2068 Blazer!

i actually first saw this as an artists rendering in one of the truck mags, maybe classic trucks? i always though it looked cool there, but seems like this guy actually took that idea and made it a reality.
i personally would run a stock chrome bumper up front (shaved bumper bolts would be great, but also expensive) probably wouldnt run the polished grille rings because that would look weird with the chrome bar in the middle i think. i also think the stock 67/68 hood lip trim dropping down around the fenders would be cool with it |

GRILL OVALS?
If you mean the trim around the grill openings, they are not expensive. $50 each from Truck Shop in Orange, CA.

Yes they are referred to as grill ovals and NOS are expensive. BTW it was a joke.
I think the thread was posted to garner opinions from the board members. I'm sorry if my opinions are not neutral enough. I do appreciate the work involved, I've built a few myself (sorry no Corvettes however ). You know what they say, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" and "opinions are like...everybody has one"

is that a front roll pan? that truck isnt finished yet (or should i say blazer) the paint looks like it is primer or base coat... maybe he isnt finished with all that yet roll pans look better on some trucks better than others... right now that thing is pretty ugly.

Or chrome your toilet seat and hang it off the bulldog hood ornament. Just like a belly button ring! Welcome to the fray Kenneth, I was wondering where you've been lurking. Scouring the MA junkyards for Edsels?

here's 2 more cents for the kitty. If he wanted something big, ugly and chromed in that spot, he should have used a 69-70 grill.
