Lets see pics of your tach mounting locations
I currently have a tachometer mounted on top of my steering column. It looks ok but the tach isnt working properly and the needle bounces about 1000rpm either way so its hard to get any kind of accurate reading. I want to replace it with a new one. I will probably just put it in the same spot. ANyone have any recomendations for brand? I want a nice chrome one like I have now. Im guessing maybe 3.5" or so diameter.
Lets see pics of what you guys have. Cheers Lonnie

Re: Lets see pics of your tach mounting locations
Here are my gauges. I took the wimpy bulbs out that comes with them and put in LED's.

Re: Lets see pics of your tach mounting locations
You can see my current tach on top of my steering column. I think it needs to be replaced. Its very innacurate and bounces around. I rewired it and put in the 10k resistor but it made no difference. Any suggestions on a new one about the same size? I have no idea what brands are good/reasonably priced.

Re: Lets see pics of your tach mounting locations
I always mounted them on the a-pillar just above the dash pad.

Re: Lets see pics of your tach mounting locations
Found a White Faced SunPro Tach on ebay. I'm also trying to keep the interior of my truck as close to '68 as possible. So, having the tach on the steering column with a Pipe clamp is about as 1968 as you can get.
Plus you can't beat the location. it's perfect.

Re: Lets see pics of your tach mounting locations
Most people do put it on the column. I put it on the A-pillar so I don't have to look down. Plus I slide the column forward.

Re: Lets see pics of your tach mounting locations
I like the aftermarket install into the dash. I would love to do that if i could find one shallow enough like yours. I do kinda like it hose clamped onto the steering column though. It makes it nice and old school looking like 96 said.

Re: Lets see pics of your tach mounting locations
I have mine on the column as well but on the side rather than the top. But when I drive at night, I get a reflection in the windshield right in my line of sight. Anybody have a simple cure?

Re: Lets see pics of your tach mounting locations
For me,the old school place to mount a tach is center/top of the dash. I built all my model cars that way in the '60s. I had a Suntune mounted in the dash in my GMC before I swapped a tach dash in. ll my trucks have had tach dashes for the last 25 years or so. I have a dash w/Camaro tach for my '67 project, but thinking about a cup mount since it's an old schooler

Love the gas pedal foot! Had one in an old D@@ge truck I had years ago. Did you get the mini foot to go on the head light dimmer?

Re: Lets see pics of your tach mounting locations
Mine will be dead center of the gauge pod/cluster and I'll use the column shifter mount for the shift light mount. As the shifter will be floor .
This way no need to find a manual tilt column.. The column shift mount will Make the shift light look more factory.. My other option is in the just dash 3 pod dash pad.. And use the column shifter mount for an I pod mount.. |
