Best Oil

I've heard different things from different people so I wanted to see if there was a consensus on what weight oil to use on a 1968 C20 396 engine? Everything runs great with no leaks.

Re: Best Oil

I'd personally run Valvoline 10W30 or 10W40 all day long. But that's just me. Some folks are synthetic converts, but I'm not exactly there yet...

Re: Best Oil

Straight 30wt or 30 HD? Dumb question but what would be the difference in the car engine verse the small engine?

Re: Best Oil

I use brad penn 10-40 in my 496. It has high zinc and is very reasonably priced. You can buy it by the case on ebay.

Wink Re: Best Oil

The best oil hands down is any major brand! Clean oil is the best though. Keeping the oil changed and filter changed is the best no matter what the brand is.
Now I know a lot of guy's will argue about brand name and some have specific needs for a certain motor and thats fine but for a everyday plain motor just use a major brand wheather it's synthtic are regular keep the oil and filter clean and you should never ever have any problems.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: Best Oil

This is always a loaded Question IMO

I run Valvoline Vr-1 Racing oil straight 30, zinc 1400ppm
Napa Gold Filter, Never a Fram.
Our warm Ca weather seems to be fine for the straight 30

Re: Best Oil

Thanks everyone. I've been running straight 30 and just wanted to get confirmation or consensus. I thought until this past couple weeks that it was warmer here in Southern Cal than it was back in New England.
