Newb Needs lift advice...

Hey folks,

I've picked up an '82 Chevy C20 and I am in the process of getting it "back in shape". It's sitting stock right now, and I would like to get some bigger tires on it, and get a fair sized lift on the truck. I'm thinking 2"-3". Not looking to turn it into a mud truck as it is only 2wd. But I am 6'5" and enjoy the added height lol.
I've read some negative things on just doing a body lift, as it puts extra stress on the tub bolts. Don't want to cause myself trouble in the future, but the price tag of a body lift is a lot nicer looking than a suspension lift. I do want a functional work truck as well as just looks and height.

This is my first truck to rebuild, and advice from you guys would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I have good and bad news you can do a 88-98 spindle swap which they make 4 inch lift spindle aftermarket. For the bad news its for a 1500 so its going to be 5lug unless i can figure out how to make it 6 lug.

Awesome. Thanks for the reply.

Yea, like I said, this is my first rebuild. I am admittedly learning as I go. Hopefully more learning than going. What are you thoughts on a body lift? I've heard more than 4" is a big no no. Would it be a more viable idea if it was a lower body lift...like 2"-2.5"? A couple hundred $$ for a body lift sounds a lot better than $1500 for suspension work.

As far as the replacement spindle goes...I'm willing to look into that for sure. Not sure where i'd find one in my area lol, but it's worth a look.

Thanks

The lift spindles are 300 bucks http://www.roughcountry.com/chevy_2wd_88-98_4.html
I found this post that will help you http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=469743 and he did the 6 lug brakes too.I'm not a fan of body lifts they look funny with the gap between the bottom of the tailgate and rear bumper.

Cool Breeze! Thanks for the link and info.

Yea, I wasn't to thrilled about the body lift option either. Just cheaper than others. We'll see how it goes.

And if you ever wanted to lower its a lot easier to swap back the spindles then take a body lift off.
