Interior and exterior trim differences

This past weekend I pulled all the pillar trim and exterior cab band from what I think was an '87 Sierra Classic..or so says the dash and emissions sticker, as the doors were not the originals and no fender emblems.

Anyway, I pulled the trim thinking I can use it on my '80 GMC project. I looked up on LMC and it looks like all but the A-pillar trim will work - whats the difference there? They don't list a '73-80 pillar trim, did those trucks not come with A-pillar trim? Will the '87 work in mine? My truck is just a plain Sierra so I'm gonna be drilling into the cab anyway...all the screws I pulled were sheetmetal screws so I assume thats how it was done in the factory.

Regarding the exterior trim, again going by LMC, the exterior cab band looks to be different '81-'87...again what gives? Can I install the '87 cab band on the '80? Truck doesn't have cab molding clips so if I were to install the '87 band, I would buy the clips for an '87.

I know it will not necessarily be period-correct, but to the untrained eye, is it gonna matter? There are other parts of the truck that aren't "period correct" I would just like to know if it will look totally out of place

The cab bands are definitely different. I've been looking for an 80's GMC cab band for mine, but ended up buying a 73-80 style. You can use either one, the cabs were the same. If you're starting with nothing, it will work. You can't use the 80's cab band on the 70's clips and vise versa. The A-pillar trim won't work, as the dash pads were different.

Thanks! I definitely could tell that the dash pads are different, but I didn't know if 73-80's had A-pillar trim, as there's no listing in the LMC catalog (only 81-87 is)

So, I'll have to buy 81-87 clips if I want to install the cab band from the '87. Just want to double check

Would the A-pillar trim work if I trimmed them perhaps? I don't want to go needlessly hacking if there's no shot of it ever working or looking nice...

LMC has been my friend for research...I do buy from them, but I'll always double check w/ them even when buying used parts (this time was different because I pulled these parts for wicked cheap at the junkyard! ) Good luck!

Re: Interior and exterior trim differences

Im sure you can probably make the trim work, although the A pillar trim did exist in the 70's; it just isn't listed in LMC. Keep searching, you'll find the right stuff. And yes, use the 81-87 clips for the cab band.
