New drop and tow project. ???'s
Hello all. Not really new to the board(been here a few years) but don't post much because I didn't have a truck to talk about............until now. Long story shortened, I got a 78' long fleet 2wd given to me. Needs a motor but thats no issue at all, I'll just build one I got cores. It's got a 4 speed in it which is ok fine with me, and very little/if any rust believe it or not lol. SOOOOO..........Questions.........
My plan is to tow my open trailer with my 67' Buick Special drag car on it to the track. Not worried at all about speed getting there. I race at the track with the car. But I want to lower the truck. As much as possible actually so it will look good when I drive it. So how much of a drop am i looking at, yet keeping with reality in towing with it(have load control bars and sway setup already) ???? Maybe a 3"/5" or 4"/6" with some helper/tow bags on the rear when the trailers on ? I've read on here a bit and kinda thinking a 1 1/2 coil cut out of the front. Would that make anywhere close to 3"s ? And where do I read more about lowering the rear like with shackles(sp) and hangers ? I will get busy abusing the search function. But if any of yall would like to just tell me how to do it it would be much appreciated lol. Anywayssssssssss..... Looking forward to being able to participate onboard with the new truck. Soon as I can if anyone interested I will toss up some pix. And thanks in advance...........

Re: New drop and tow project. ???'s
I had a 6/8 on the new body style when they first came out, and with air bags she would tow just fine.
As I take you probably have a C10 so a 2/4 or 3/4 would likely be about the most with out helper bags. As far as cutting a coil when I did that on an old C10 I had I like to use C20 coils. |

Re: New drop and tow project. ???'s
Sorry, lack of info given there, yes it is a half ton. Finally went and looked at it close and it does have some rust in it. But nothing major to me. I worked in a body shop for a few years so I can fix it. Or there seems to be enough suppliers out there for these years to buy new stuff.
It seems like everyone says use 3/4 ton springs to cut. Would you happen to know why ? Im thinking its a ride issue. Also a 3/4 or 3/5 drop would be fine with me. Would a 3" front drop clear long tube headers ya think ? I have some I can use. Also, dad came up with a new flywheel, clutch and pressure plate off a shelf in the shop somehow. Also a new crank and bearings from another stash. This ole heap is coming together wayyyyyy faster than I ever thought it would. HAHA. Thanks for the intput, and of course more is welcome. Thanks.............
