Actually, 4x4s didn't come with a BB either. You will have to use the small block setup or i believe there is an aftermarket BB setup.

You can use the square body engine crossmember with the square body clams. I think you have to drill a couple of holes to make it happen.

Monte, no need to change anything, a big block will bolt right up to the small block crossmember, Although to put a big block in a 4X4 you will either have to clearance the firewall for the HEI and valve covers, use a body lift to gain clearance, Or move the engine/trans/transfer case forward a couple of inches.

Mark, thanks for the info, would I need the clamshells and stands to bolt to the SBC cross member? Moving the engine forward will already be taken care of with the tranny swap, so I have that part covered. I've read up on the swap but could not find what was used for mounts.

Re: WTB BBC crossmember and clam shells

Monte, you do not need anything else, the small block rubber mounts bolt right onto a big block and since you are going with a 700R4? it would make it the easiest swap leaving the transfer case and drivelines in the factory location.
Although I will admit using a 73 up crossmember and clam shells makes for a nice upgrade to a sturdier mounting system and added clearance in case you ever need to remove the oil pan, plus more clearance from crossmember to front axle pumpkin on a stock height 4X4.

Thanks Mark, think I will try it with the 73 up cross member to make it look right and be sturdy. Plus you never know when you will have to pull the pan off, stranger thing happen. Hows WA these days.

well it looks like I'm back on line for looking for a set up, if anything I'll have both to see which works better. What are you looking to get for the set up and if you don't mind could you get a picture of it. Thanks
