Does anyone know of any companies out there that make lexan windows specific for 73-87s?

Honestly, you could buy the Lexan sheets and cut out your own windows for you truck. I did this for the back window and sliding window for my 1984 Toyota pickup.

Keep in mind that Lexan will scuff and look pretty crappy over time, where as glass is harder and doesn't scratch as easily. Lexan also likes to let dust hang onto it a little easier than clean glass will. Not a huge deal, but it can be annoying.

Lexan will only save you 8lbs over the stock windows. Many other ways to cut more weight down than that.

I put Lexan in an old Ford pickup one time. Worked fine on side windows and back, But the windshield was a BIG mistake. It was flat. Somehow, at night, it distorted the headlight glare from on coming vehicles, it would almost make it impossible to see. As it got scratches from the wipers and dirt, it got worse.

Lexan may have been improved since then, as that was back in the '70s.

The sides and the back window would be okay to cut myself but i was wondering more for the windshield to see if anyone made one molded. Its more for looks on the sides and back then for weight. I wanted to make the side windows 1 piece with no vent and bolt them on like on drag cars. Id leave them off the whole summer and wont drive it at all in the winter so it doesnt matter. As far as the scuffing and scratches goes my buddy does clear bras and car wrapping so i bet he has something i could throw on them to protect them. What did you guys use to cut the lexan and how did you install them?

Insidious i just wanted to add that my truck is pretty gutted to the max so there arent a lot of other places to shave weight. I have to upload some new pictures this winter i completely tore my truck apart and went nuts with it.

Be sure to get Polycabonite lexan, there is Acrylic plexiglass which is different and splinters when you cut it. With the Polycarb you can cut it with a medium tooth jigsaw (sabersaw). The pieces would install like the glass unit would. Rope in windshield and back glass, with the side windows being glued into a track on the regulator.

Lexan can be cut with a utility knife if it's a straight line. You pretty much score an edge and then snap the piece right on the line. But if you want rounded corners and such, then you will need a reciprocating saw of some sort.....as previously mentioned.

As far as protecting from scratches, I believe you are on the right track with the wraps that are available. You can get the clear 3M stuff that people put on the fronts of vehicles to protect from rock chips. Although that may not be totally scratch proof either, at least it's easier and cheaper to replace than the whole piece of Lexan.

What about Speed Glass? I think that used to be the name of the company. They sold windsheilds and such. They didn't have some of charecteristics lexan and plexi have. I rember it from maybe an old hot rod mag. One thing on our race car is that lexan needs to not stay in the sun for long periods of time. Like weeks. Keep the windshield covered when not in use. They make speacial cleaners but I've never seen any that really did anything. When we first put lexan in our car we didn't cover it and with the first season it was toast. Also you couldn't clean it with paper towels because it would scratch it. Seems unreal but true. Know it first hand.

You need lexan called margaurd its scratch resistant.

We got some lexan from a NASCAR team at auction a few years back and while it held up we still had to replace it within two years or so. I don't know that it was Margaurd or not but seems to me it should of been of some good quality knowing it came out of a pro shop.
