Exhaust exiting in front of wheels

We are wanting to have our exhaust exit from in front of the rear wheels. What we dont want is to have the exhaust pipe go fully under the frame since the truck will probably be quite low at times. Has anyone done this? Have any pics? Did you notch your frame?

My idea was to run it outside the frame rails from the motor area as the frame swoops up there, however I have not found any headers that will work so far. Block huggers have the exhaust flange straight down, however will hit the mounts. The chevelle headers I currently have the flange faces rearward and is located behind where it swoops up. Motor is a big block. Exhaust will be 2.5 inches.

Thanks in advance for any help, like to have some sort of ideas to tell the exhaust guys when i get to that point.

There are several companies that make a center Cross member that has holes in it for exhaust to pass through, or it's possible to cut the stock one yourself too. I am using the ECE Extreme Drop Cross memeber, A buddy of mine used the stock one and made his own holes. I'm pretty sure you can still make it work like this with a BB.

I just cut holes in my cross member I cut 4.5 inch holes and welded in 4" sprinkler pipe the outer diameter of the pipe is actually 4.5. The hardest part was the cutting,I used a saws all now I have a plasmacutter,wish I had it for that project.

Gents, What is the purpose of replacing the cross member. I have the full EC lowering kit with pan hard bar.

It's a cleaner looking, stonger, X member, with provisions to route the exhaust up in the frame rails, as opposed to below, outside, or dumping in front of it. Some of the Aftermarket ones (i.e. Porterbuilt) bulid adjustability for the trailing arm mounts and/or relocate them to adjust the rear suspension characteristics.

My buddy tack welded a plate across the already existing slots in the X member, and used a bi-metal hole saw. The plate serves a point for the pilot bit to drill into.

There was a 70 Chevy truck in the 2000 Hot Rod Power Tour, that had the exhaust coming out in front of the rear wheels. They built 4" tubes that went through the frame behind the engine and allowed the exhaust tubing to pass through to the outside of the frame just behind the headers and run under the cab and bed to the point of exiting. The builder boxed the frame where they cut the larger opening for the tubing and welded the tubing to the frame and the boxing pieces.

I too have the chevelle headers.... had the pipes run over the first crossmember, through the second one and over the frame/under the bed and dumps right at the tires.... most of the pics I have of it suck... should've taken them with it on the rack.... here's what's visible ......

That is a little too close to the tire, from where I sit.

its 4 linked,so the routing was pretty straight forward since i have no trailing arm crossmember....it looks closer than it is,it is further away at ride height.been running it this way for 3 years now with no issues.

Not real worried about the crossmember how did you get it under your frame?
