Q: on Manual Clutch Assembly

I'm running into an issue installing a hydraulic throwout bearing for a stock application into my chassis. I'm measuring about 1/4" interferrence fit between the clutch fingers, throwout bearing and the transmission.

Since this truck has a questionable history (very cobbled together over time), I do not know what friction plate/pressure plate combination is in it.

Would a heavy duty pressure plate be thicker than stock? Is there a visual way to tell the difference between stock and heavy duty pressure plate with the cast bell housing installed and the dust shield removed?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: Q: on Manual Clutch Assembly

Stock throwout bearings came in two different lengths to match the clutch. If you clutch took the shorter throwout bearing that could be the problem.

Re: Q: on Manual Clutch Assembly

There are basically two different pressure plate configurations, diaphragm & Borg & Beck. If I remember correctly the diaphragm takes the long throwout bearing and the Borg & Beck takes the short one. Here is some info.

Here is another from Car Craft Mag.

Re: Q: on Manual Clutch Assembly

Diaphram style came in raised finger and flat finger. Raised gets the shorter TOB.
FWIW there are 4 kinds of pressure plates. Borg and beck, diapram, long and long/borg&beck.

I believe it's a raised finger diaphram style. Is there differences in the raised finger style regarding "height" of the fingers?
