cherry picker lifting a bed
I need to remove the longbed box off of my truck and I have a cherry picker that can lift up to 1.5 to 2 tons. The Hydrolic cylendar can lift 8 ton. If I used tow straps to tie up my bed to you think that I could lift it off like this? If it couldn't lift up the whole thing at once, do you think it could lift at least one end of it while a few people lifted the other end of it?
thanks for the help brad |

Brad,
I have not tried a box but I have lifted a bunch of things heavier with one. The thing to be careful about is having it extended to far out. I had a small block on the hook with the arm and the legs all the way out and it bent the legs on the picker. That is the only time I had any problems and I have hoisted a bunch of engines. Don

Used one to lift my bed. Attach to four points at the corners leave the tailgate on for balance and rigidity. Lift it up past the tires and drive out.

Did a short bed that way by myself...Drove out and put saw horses under it. The weight is nothing for a cherry picker...I only used rope to pick it up.

No problem. If it can hold a big block and a TH-400 with me swinging it around then it can hold a little 'ol bed.
Just secure it right so that you don't fold her up.

Have some one hold onto it too...just in case it wants to tun a bit. Could be enough to break the back window. |

If you have a few people (3-4) just lift the bed off and put it where you want and you don't even have to mess with the cherry picker.

I did it putting eye bolts where the bed bolts went through.
