rcsb vs rclb
I recently bought a C20 truck for my DD, and I am currently deciding on its build plans. I chose the C20 for the bigger brakes, and heavy duty nature vs a C10. Plus the price was extremely right if not basic theft, and that said I got my truck.
So if I am building truck to go down dirt roads to fishing/camping spots would a shortbed be a real advantage. Or just more work then I need to do, and money best spent elsewhere. The guys I knew who were really into off road preferred small shorter vehicles, but things I see online is all over the place. I am not counting most 4x4's I see where my old slammed car made it as far off road as they ever have. The 7-11 parking lot. |

Re: rcsb vs rclb
If its "just" dirt roads then short bed vs longbed is a non-issue. How much gear do you want to carry and /or "serious" off roading? If you get in a serious situation a short bed will have a better approach angle and and tighter turning radius. Other than that, it comes down to asthetics and that is a subjective topic.

Re: rcsb vs rclb
Unless you are planning more serious offroading and crawlin, then just stick with the lb. As for best bang for your buck mods on a 4x4. My no.1 pick bar none is a locker. They are inexpensive for the improvement made. After that a set of tires, basically as big as you can go that fit without any clearance issues. If you are building on a budget these are probably the best 2 investments for light off roading.
Of course the possibilities are endless, suspension, gearing, exhaust, engine. But for what you described the tires and locker and great bang for the buck without tearing a whole lot of stuff down.

Re: rcsb vs rclb
The long bed may offer a better ride due to the longer wheelbase on the dirt roads, especially if they are washboard roads.

Re: rcsb vs rclb
Thanks guys.
I saw a sweet stepside bed, and it got my head flowing with ideas. Especially on how to justify it to myself. |

Longbox if you plan to work with it or haul, shortbox if it is just a toy. Just my opinion.

Re: rcsb vs rclb
The longbed has the more ideal wheelbase for serious offroad anyway. the only deciding factor to me would be personal preference. i like the longbeds myself, but i have had a shortbed too.
my jeep is the same WB as a longbed truck FWIW Ryan |
